Frequently Asked Questions
What is money coaching?
It’s recruiting a travel guide (hi!) to help you:
-
Develop financial literacy skills
-
Heal your relationship with money
-
Make value-aligned financial decisions
-
Let go of money habits that no longer serve you
-
Create new habits you’re proud of
-
Craft the future you want using your money as a tool
How is a personal finance coach different from a financial advisor?
A money coach helps you build financial literacy and reflect on your money mindset, and offers encouragement and accountability as you work toward your goals.
A financial advisor helps you invest your money and recommends specific investment strategies and financial products.
I do not give investment advice, nor do I recommend or receive commissions from the sale of financial products.
What can I expect in coaching sessions?
We’ll start with check-in questions and get a pulse on how your week went financially.
Then we’ll launch into the session topic, which is where we’ll spend most of our time. This can be anything from delving into how you feel about money to getting down to brass tacks on savings rates.
At the end, I’ll make sure we addressed all your questions on the topic and offer homework if applicable.
What outcomes do we work toward in coaching?
I want every client to walk away financially empowered and excited to be the main character in their money journey and equipped with tools addressing literacy, money mindset and strategy.
Your specific goals are your own! You’ll reflect on value-aligned money goals that bring you closer to the financial life you want. I’ll help you pinpoint the milestones you want to achieve and how to get there.
What is the time commitment?
For Money Pit Stop, expect to spend 30-60 minutes on prework and two hours in session with me. I’ll email you the follow-ups and action items we defined together after we meet.
For Money Plane Ticket, I recommend scheduling 50 minute sessions every week and check-ins two weeks apart. The package includes 11.5 hours of one-on-one coaching; plan on the program lasting about four months.
Ongoing coaching includes four 50 minute sessions per month and email support in between. There will occasionally be homework, which is done at your pace.
Who is coaching for?
Money coaching would be a good fit if this sounds a lot like you:
-
I feel out of control financially
-
I don’t know where it all goes every month
-
I’m ready to make a change, but I don’t know where to start
-
I’ve tried budgets, but nothing sticks
-
I can’t shake the feeling that I’m behind
-
I know I should be planning for the future, but how does that even work?
